How to recruit a good salesperson?
His CV was perfect, his experience impressive, and he had great presence. The interview went smoothly. His eloquent answers to every question were almost exemplary, and his ability to articulate thoughts was top-notch. He spoke about his successes with such enthusiasm and passion that you could listen to him endlessly. Each of his examples was like from a textbook – perfect and well-thought-out.
But that’s not all – he also had incredible charisma. His smile was contagious, and his confidence – impressive. He was one of those people who could make a deep connection with anyone they met…
A quick decision, an offer, employment… A few months pass and what? Well, nothing… apart from his verbosity, there are no concrete results. He can tell excellent stories and create business opportunities, but only on paper. Beyond that, there’s nothing…
You think to yourself, how could I have been so wrong? You look back and suddenly remember how many things during the interview should have raised red flags… He charmed you so much that you didn’t see them…
How to protect yourself?
- Organize more than one stage of recruitment; this will allow you to look at the candidate more objectively.
- Ask questions that require the candidate to describe specific situations from the past.
- Ask them to complete a work sample or participate in a simulation that reflects the daily duties of the position.
- Check references with former employers.
